How to Properly Use MUFFIK Orthopedic Mats

MUFFIK orthopedic mats are an excellent tool for healthy foot development in children as well as for adult foot care. To help you get the maximum benefit, we bring you a detailed guide on how to use them — from the very first steps to a daily routine recommended by physiotherapists.

How to use the mats?

Always barefoot 👣

Basic rule No. 1: walk on the mats barefoot. Walking without socks allows the sole of the foot to fully perceive the surface texture and engage the small foot muscles that remain practically inactive when walking in shoes or socks.

These small muscles are essential for proper posture, ankle stability, and healthy arch development. MUFFIK mats are designed so that their diverse surfaces naturally stimulate the sole of the foot, similar to walking barefoot on grass, sand, or pebbles in nature.

Start slowly — less is more at the beginning

If you have only recently started using the mats, do not overdo it right away. The feet and leg muscles need time to adapt to new stimuli.

✅ Ideal start: 2 to 3 minutes per day
✅ Gradually increase the duration as the feet adapt
✅ If you feel significant sensitivity or fatigue, shorten the time and give your feet a rest day

⏱ How many minutes per day?

Short, but regular — that’s the golden rule

Many people think the longer, the better. With MUFFIK mats, this is not true. Regularity is more important than duration.

Just a few minutes every day is enough to see results. The great thing is that using the mats does not have to be a “mandatory exercise session.” On the contrary, they can easily be incorporated into everyday activities:

• 🎲 During playtime — children play while strengthening their feet
• 📚 While reading — simply stand or stimulate the soles while sitting
• 🦷 While brushing teeth — 2–3 minutes barefoot on the mat as a daily ritual
• 🍳 While cooking — place the mats in the kitchen and exercise without thinking about it
• 🧺 While ironing — combine pleasant with useful

Physiotherapist’s tip: “Regular short stimulation is far more effective for the neuromuscular system than occasional long sessions. The brain and muscles learn through repetition.”

🌿 Why combine different surfaces?

Variety is key

One of the greatest advantages of MUFFIK mats is the diversity of surfaces. Each mat has a different texture — hard, soft, raised, gentle, spiky — and each stimulates different parts of the foot and different muscle groups.

🔴 Hard surfaces — strengthen foot muscles and improve proprioception (awareness of body position in space)
🟢 Soft surfaces — massage the foot, promote circulation and relaxation
🟡 Raised structures — activate reflex points, train balance and stimulate deep muscles
🔵 Gentle surfaces — suitable for beginners or sensitive feet

The more varied the path, the better the training. Ideally, create a “path” from different mats — just like in nature, where no two steps are ever the same.

How to arrange the mats?

The mats can be assembled like puzzle pieces into various shapes:

• Straight path — a classic route for everyday walking
• Carpet — create a surface for complex foot stimulation
• Circle — children can walk around it while playing
• Islands — place mats around the room and jump from one to another
• Balance training — stand on one mat and practice balance

Tip: Place the mats in the most frequently used area of your home — ideally in a hallway you walk through several times a day.

🏥 What do physiotherapists say?

MUFFIK orthopedic mats are a popular tool among physiotherapists and orthopedists. Experts recommend them not only for prevention but also for rehabilitation in cases of:

• Flat feet and fallen arches — regular stimulation helps strengthen the muscles that support the arch
• Valgus deformities (so-called knock knees) — improves stability and muscle coordination
• Toe walking in children — varied stimuli help children better perceive the whole foot
• Rehabilitation after ankle or foot injuries — a safe and natural form of proprioceptive training
• Prevention of back pain — a healthy arch and proper weight distribution directly affect posture

✅ Step by step toward health

MUFFIK orthopedic mats are not a miracle tool that solves everything overnight. However, with regular use, they naturally and gently support healthy foot development in children and foot care in adults.

“Nature created us to walk barefoot on uneven terrain. MUFFIK mats are a smart way to bring this natural movement back into the modern home.”

Barefoot. Every day. With joy. 🦶
