WE SIT TOO MUCH. MUFFIK GETS US MOVING
School, homework, computers, desk work, car journeys and television in the evening. We sit in the morning, we sit in the afternoon, we sit in the car – and sometimes we do not even realise how many hours a day we spend barely moving.
Our bodies are not designed to remain in one position for long periods, even though many jobs involve sitting down. That is why it is important to break up prolonged sitting regularly and fit as much healthy movement as possible into the day.
The World Health Organization recommends limiting sedentary time and replacing it with physical activity of any intensity, even light movement. It also notes that there is currently insufficient evidence to make an official recommendation for specific intervals, such as an exact rule to “stand up every 30 minutes”.
In practice, this means not letting the body remain seated for hours without changing position. Standing up, taking a walk, stretching, getting a drink or exercising for a few minutes is always better than continuing to sit. This is even more important for children. A school day involves several hours of sitting, often followed by homework when they return home.
This is where MUFFIK orthopaedic puzzle mats can help. They do not have to be reserved for planned exercise. Simply keeping them close at hand – or rather, close to your feet – can serve as a reminder that it is time to stand up and get moving.

After school, a child can stand on the mats for a few minutes, shift their weight from one foot to the other, rise onto their toes, march on the spot or try balancing on one leg.
MUFFIK mats can work just as well under a desk at home or in the office. This does not mean standing on them for hours. It makes far more sense to change position regularly while working, stand up for a moment, get the feet moving and then carry on.
Another smart idea is to arrange MUFFIK mats around a room or hallway so that you regularly walk across them on your way to the kitchen, bedroom or living room. Place them in the bathroom to use while brushing your teeth, or beside the bed for the first foot massage of the morning and the last one at night.
A child can stand up and walk across the mats after finishing an assignment. An adult can stand and step from mat to mat while making a phone call, or stimulate their feet with the HEDGEHOG mat. The whole family can turn time with MUFFIK orthopaedic puzzle mats into a shared evening ritual.
MUFFIK orthopaedic flooring offers endless possibilities for children of different ages, adults and even pets. It can be a toy, a sensory aid, a sensorimotor trail and even a relaxation tool. It is well worth building up a good collection at home.
